This Transfer Advising Guide provides 61 college-level hours, of which 59 will transfer and apply as 2 SCH of EDUC 1300 will transfer but will NOT be applicable towards the Angelo State University baccalaureate degree in Nursing.

Note: Angelo State University does not have a maximum number of college-level transfer hours accepted towards a baccalaureate degree.  Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

Note: For the Alamo Colleges District this transfer advising guide is degree complete and field of study complete but NOT core complete.

Angelo State University Transfer Scholarship Information


Alamo Colleges District students transferring to Angelo State University with a 2.5 GPA will be awarded a Carr Academic Transfer Scholarship.  This scholarship is automatically awarded once the student is admitted to Angelo State University.

Each College President in the Alamo Colleges District may nominate/designate Carr Presidential Transfer Scholars.  

Finally, Angelo State University will award a scholarship to Alamo Colleges District students that are members of Phi Theta Kappa.

The Associate of Science (AS) is designed to align closely with the first half of a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.  Students should follow the pre-major AS to BS Transfer Advising Guide for the major and university selected.  The Transfer Advising Guides are developed in conjunction with the senior institution to which the student plans to transfer.

To be awarded the AS degree at one of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District, students must have 9 hours of AS Approved Course Requirements not included in the 42 hours of Core Curriculum.  Please check with your advisor for assistance.

Special Admissions Requirements at Angelo State University


Admission Criteria

Admission to the Generic and Second Degree B.S.N. programs are both highly competitive. For a candidate to be considered, a fully completed application packet is due to the Department of Nursing on or before the published deadlines. The Generic B.S.N. application deadlines are February 1st for fall admission OR August 31st for spring admission. The Second Degree B.S.N. application deadline is October 1st.

Applications will not be considered complete and will not be evaluated until all the following required information has been submitted. Submission of documents to the Department of Nursing is the responsibility of the applicant. Incomplete applications will not be considered in the selection process.

Meeting pre-acceptance requirements does not guarantee admission to the Generic or Second Degree B.S.N. programs.

 

B.S.N. Generic Degree Pre-Acceptance Requirements:

I.  You must apply to the university before applying to the B.S.N. program. All requirements for regular admission to Angelo State University must be met.

II.  Completion, or enrollment in, the following prerequisite courses:

A.  Biology 2323/2123 - Human Anatomy and lab, Biology 2324/2124 - Human Physiology and lab; or Health Science Professions 2301/2101 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I and lab, Health Science Professions 2302/2102 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II and lab.

B.  Chemistry 1306/1106 - Chemistry for Health Professions and lab.

C.  Communication 1315 - Public Speaking.

D.  General Studies 1181 - Freshman Seminar.

E.  English 1301 - English Composition, English 1302 - Writing Across the Curriculum or English 2311 - Introduction to Technical and Business Writing.

F.  Health Science Professions 4315 - Human Nutrition and Dietary Supplementation.

G.  History 1301 - History of the United States to 1865 and 1302 - History of the United States, 1865 to Present.

H.  Language, Philosophy, and Culture:

Cultural Competence 2323, English 2321, 2322, 2323, 2326, 2329, 2331, 2341, History 2311, 2312, 2322, Philosophy 1301, 2306.

I.  Mathematics 1314 - College Algebra or 1324 - Finite Mathematics I or 1332 - Introduction to Contemporary Mathematics or 1342 - Elementary Statistics.*

J.  Nursing 2324 - Pathophysiology.

K.  Biology 2420.

L.  Political Science 2305 - Federal Government and 2306 - Texas Government.

M.  Psychology 2315 - Psychology of Adjustment or 2301 - General Psychology, and 2304 - Developmental Psychology.

N.  Statistics: Health Science Professions 4337 - Statistical Techniques for Health Science Professionals or Mathematics 3321 - Statistics or Psychology 2321 - Research Methods and Statistical Analysis or Mathematics 1342 - Elementary Statistics.*

O.  3 semester credit hours of Creative Arts.

III.  Minimum grade of “C” in all required mathematics, nursing, and science courses.

IV.  500-600 word Personal Statement addressing the three following

questions:

A.  How has your life experiences shaped who you are today? Include

any activities such as community, volunteer, military, healthcare, etc.

that you feel make you a strong candidate.

B.  How do you see yourself contributing to the profession of nursing?

C.  Why should you be admitted to this program?

V.  A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 on all previous college work.

VI.  Submit ASU Department of Nursing Student Immunization Record form. (The form can be found on the website).

VII.  Submit proof of current health insurance.

VIII.  TEAS version V or higher nursing entrance assessment.

IX.  Copy of permanent resident card for non-citizens.

X.  Official TOEFL scores for international applicants.

 

Selection Process

A number of factors, including regulatory agencies’ requirements, availability of clinical sites, and university resources dictate the number of candidates who can be accepted into the B.S.N. programs. Because the number of applications exceeds the number of candidates that can be accepted into the program, each complete application submitted by the published deadline meeting the above pre-acceptance requirements, will be evaluated by a faculty committee utilizing an objective scoring system. Points are awarded in a number of areas including:

• Non-nursing curriculum course work grade point average (GPA).

• Number of non-nursing semester credit hours completed with a “C” or better.

• 500-600 word Personal Statement addressing the three following questions:

· How has your life experiences shaped who you are today? Include any activities such as community, volunteer, military, healthcare, etc. that you feel make you a strong candidate.

· How do you see yourself contributing to the profession of nursing?

· Why should you be admitted to this program?

• Grades in pre-requisite science courses.

• Number of withdrawals and failures on transcripts.
