Special College Admission Requirements for the UTSA College of Business

Admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) majors in the College of Business is competitive and based upon academic performance. Students must be TSI complete to qualify as a pre-business student. Qualified pre-business students must complete a series of courses before they can be evaluated for admittance to the College of Business and officially declare a business major. The newly admitted class is decided by the College each semester and is determined by the available enrollment capacity and grades of the application pool. Therefore, admission to the UTSA College of Business is not guaranteed.

To be considered for admission to the College of Business a pre-business student must complete 7 required courses (21 credit hours) of which 5 are business courses with a minimum of C- or better. In the semester that a pre-business student completes the five required business courses (15 hours) at UTSA, he/she will be evaluated for admission to the College of Business. This is known as the 15-hour rule which requires that by the time students complete their 15th business hour at UTSA, they must have taken the required two nonbusiness courses and the required five business courses from List 1. If any of the required business courses have been completed prior to entering UTSA, students must take additional business courses at UTSA from List 2 in order to meet the 15-hour rule. Students who earn 15 business hours without completing List 1 forfeit their chance to be evaluated for admission to the College of Business and they must choose another major outside of business. See the undergraduate catalog for detailed information on 1) qualifying as a pre-business student, 2) admission requirements to a major in the College of Business, and 3) to view List 1 and List 2 courses for admission to a major in the College of Business.

If any of the required business courses have been completed prior to entering UTSA, students must take additional business courses at UTSA from List 2 below in order to meet the 15-hour rule. Students who begin courses on List 2 before completing List 1 and reach 15 business hours will forfeit their right to be evaluated for admission to the College of Business.

List 2:

ACC 2033 Principles of Accounting II 3
FIN 3013 Principles of Business Finance 3
GBA 2013 Legal, Social and Ethical Issues in Business 3

Additional UTSA Advising Notes

Things to do and remember upon Admission to UTSA:

The Alamo Colleges District Advising

Students are encouraged to consult with an academic advisor about courses and other educational concerns if they plan to pursue a two-year degree program, transfer to another college or university, or simply take a few selected courses. In addition to course and degree requirements, policies and procedures are subject to change; stay informed by meeting with an academic advisor regularly.

Many students who plan to transfer to a university are advised to fulfill the lower-division requirements for the university. With appropriate planning, your Alamo Colleges District team can help make the transfer experience a seamless process. It is the responsibility of all students to ensure that they take courses at the Alamo Colleges District that will be accepted by the senior institutions they wish to attend.

For more information contact your Alamo Colleges District team.

Using this Transfer Advising Guide with UTSA

This Transfer Advising Guide represents UTSA’s degree plan and is subject to change at the university’s discretion. It is intended for advising purposes only so students know exactly which courses they can take at any of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District and have the courses count towards degree requirements when they transfer to UTSA. It is highly recommended that students meet with their assigned academic advisor to review all graduation and transfer requirements listed in the Transfer Advising Guide.

The ultimate goal is to provide students with accurate information for transfer pathways while minimizing loss of credits in transfer. Students are encouraged to review UTSA’s requirements frequently.

Course numbers in italics are UTSA’s course numbers.

This Transfer Advising Guide is based upon The University of Texas at San Antonio’s 2017-2018 catalog and is subject to change.
