Lower Division Requirements at the Alamo Colleges District for an AA degree
The courses in this section meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts degree. The Graduation section in any catalog of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District lists additional Degree/Certificate Requirements.
Applicable Transfer Credit Hours
This Transfer Advising Guide provides 65 college-level hours, of which 65 will transfer and apply towards the UTSA baccalaureate degree of Music (Music Marketing Emphasis).
Note: UTSA accepts a maximum of 66 college-level hours in transfer towards a baccalaureate degree. Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

UTSA Distinguished Transfer Scholarship
Fall and spring transfer applicants who are transferring 24-66 credit hours and get admitted to UTSA by the Distinguished Transfer Scholarship priority deadline will be given automatic consideration for this scholarship valued up to $6,000* for up to two years or four semesters if renewal eligibility is maintained. The value is awarded on a competitive basis.
This scholarship is competitive so out-of-state and international students can receive a Competitive Scholarship Waiver and pay in-state tuition for every year they hold a competitive scholarship of at least $1,000.

Gateway Course(s) for Music at UTSA

Students pursuing this degree at UTSA must successfully complete each of the Gateway Courses with a grade of “D” or better in no more than two attempts. A student who is unable to successfully complete these courses within two attempts, including dropping a course with a grade of “W” or taking an equivalent course at another institution (including any colleges of the Alamo Colleges District), will be required to change his or her major to a field outside the Department of Music.
Field of Study Curriculum for Music

The field of study curriculum for music is designed to apply to the Bachelor of Music degree but may also be applied to the Bachelor of Arts or other baccalaureate-level music degrees as deemed appropriate by the awarding institution. The field of study curriculum is furthermore intended to serve as a guide for community and technical colleges in structuring a transfer curriculum in music.

Admission to the Department of Music
In order to declare music as a major, students must successfully audition for UTSA music faculty on their principal instrument. Ideally, that audition should take place prior to the student’s first semester at UTSA. If that does not occur, students must audition within two semesters of starting at UTSA. Students may audition to be a music major a maximum of three times. Information on auditions can found at http://music.utsa.edu/index.php/prospective-students/audition-process.
Once admitted, music majors are expected to make consistent, satisfactory progress toward their degree. A student who fails to meet this expectation will meet with a program area advisor and may be required to change his or her major to a field outside the Department of Music.
If a student is not enrolled in Private Instruction for two consecutive long semesters (Fall and Spring), the student must re-audition for admission as a UTSA music major.
Transfer students who have completed four semesters of music theory, ear training, and class piano at another institution must complete any necessary review/proficiency requirements and be eligible for all upper-level music courses within two years of entering the UTSA Department of Music and declaring the music major. A transfer student who fails to meet this expectation will be required to change his or her major to a field outside the Department of Music.
