The courses in this section meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts degree or an Associate of Science degree. The Graduation section in any catalog of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District lists additional Degree/Certificate Requirements.

- Select one course from the Life and Physical Sciences (30) Core will transfer as UTSA Life and Physical Sciences (30) Core
- Select one course from the Additional Language, Philosophy and Culture (90) Core will transfer as UTSA Component Area Option (90) Core

Applicable Transfer Credit Hours
This Transfer Advising Guide provides 66 college-level hours, of which 66 will transfer and apply towards the UTSA baccalaureate degree in Multidisciplinary Studies.
Note: UTSA accepts a maximum of 66 college-level hours in transfer towards a baccalaureate degree. Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.
Note: Student pursuing UTSA BA Multidisciplinary Studies degree requires three different Focus Areas with 6 SCH (semester credit hours) for each focus area if student follows this Transfer Advising Guide. For example if a student chooses HISTORY (Focus Area One), COMMUNICATION (Focus Area Two) and SOCIOLOGY (Focus Area Three) as their three different focus areas, then students would take 6 SCH in HIST, 6 SCH in COMM and 6 SCH in SOCI with the Alamo Colleges District. Other focus areas could include: ANTH, ARTS, CRIJ, ENGL, GOVT, HUMA, PHIL, PSYC, SPAN.
Note: Students pursuing UTSA BS Multidisciplinary Studies degree requires three different Focus Areas with 6 SCH (semester credit hours) for each focus area if student follows this Transfer Advising Guide. To earn the BS degree at UTSA, ONE of the three different focus areas MUST be from UTSA College of Sciences or UTSA College of Engineering. For example if a student chooses PHILOSOPHY (Focus Area One), POLITICAL SCIENCE (GOVT) and MATHEMATICS (Focus Area Three) as their three different focus areas, then students would take 6 SCH in PHIL, 6 SCH in GOVT and 6 SCH in MATH with the Alamo Colleges District. Mathematics would satisfy the focus area from UTSA College of Sciences. Students should visit UTSA College of Sciences and UTSA College of Engineering to see what focus areas are acceptable.

UTSA Distinguished Transfer Scholarship
Fall and spring transfer applicants who are transferring at least 24 semester credit hours of academic coursework (dual credit and work in progress not included) at the time of admission will be given automatic consideration based on academic credit. This scholarship is valued up to $6,000 (1,500 each semester) for up to four consecutive semesters (not including summers) if renewal eligibility is maintained. The value is awarded on a competitive basis, while funding is still available.
Deadline to be considered for the Distinguished Transfer Scholarship:
- Fall transfers must be admitted by May 1
- Spring transfers must be admitted by October 15

The Associate of Science (AS) is designed to align closely with the first half of a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. Students should follow the pre-major AS to BS Transfer Advising Guide for the major and university selected. The Transfer Advising Guides are developed in conjunction with the senior institution to which the student plans to transfer.
To be awarded the AS degree at one of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District, students must have 9 hours of AS Approved Course Requirements not included in the 42 hours of Core Curriculum. Please check with your advisor for assistance.

Students pursuing this degree at UTSA must successfully complete each of the Gateway Courses with a grade of “C” or better in no more than two attempts. A student who is unable to successfully complete these courses within two attempts, including dropping a course with a grade of “W” or taking an equivalent course at another institution (including any colleges of the Alamo Colleges District), will not be allowed to select this major at UTSA.

About the Multidisciplinary Studies Program
The Multidisciplinary Studies program allows students to create a customized degree (B.A.) or to choose a prescribed niche program (B.A. and B.S.).
For the B.A. degree, students may either build a customized program by choosing three focus areas from existing major or minor degrees and available certificate options, or propose a unique concentration area with the approval of the program director. Students also have the option to follow a prescribed list of courses to create a focused program. Current options include:

Both degree options are designed to allow for the combination of different fields into a structured format. Since the program involves coursework from departments across the university, it offers students opportunities to capitalize upon diverse personal interests and talents through a combination of study and academic experiences appropriate to meet their educational and long‐term career goals.
Students should contact the Multidisciplinary Studies department to ensure which courses satisfy a focus area and will be approved by the Multidisciplinary Studies Program Director.

UTSA Online Degree Information
This online UTSA BA in Multidisciplinary Studies program offers FIVE specializations in 100% online format after transferring from the Alamo Colleges District:
- Business - Course topics include accounting; economics; business law; information systems for management; and organization theory, behavior, and management.
- Communication - Course topics include digital business communication; foundations of communication; language and communication theory; persuasion; and rhetorical communication analysis.
- Data Science - Course topics include programming for data science, data visualization, data mining, and machine learning, and statistics. Students who complete the data science focus area as part of a bachelor’s degree will be eligible to also receive the undergraduate certificate in data science.
- Health - Course topics include community and public health; drugs and health; human nutrition; weight management; and program planning and evaluation.
- Sociology - Course topics include race and ethnic relations; social context of drug use; criminology; gender; and qualitative research methods.
The program also includes 27 credit hours of elective courses, providing plenty of opportunity to customize your degree to your interests and career objectives.
