The courses in this section meet the requirements for an Associate of Applied Science degree and an Associate of Arts degree. The Graduation section in any catalog of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District lists additional Degree/Certificate Requirements.

(+) Associate of Arts (AA) - Additional University Degree Requirements


Upon completion of Semester VI, students can earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.  The coursework below/coursework outside the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree plan are degree required courses for Texas A&M University - San Antonio.  Once the student completes the coursework following Semester VI, student will then become eligible to earn an Associate of Arts (AA) degree with the Alamo Colleges District.  ALL courses within this transfer advising guide will transfer and apply towards Texas A&M University - San Antonio Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree with the exception of those listed in the Applicable Transfer Credit Hours section.

This Transfer Advising Guide provides 81 college-level hours, of which 81 will transfer and apply towards the Texas A&M University - San Antonio baccalaureate degree in Applied Arts and Sciences (Criminology and Criminal Justice Concentration).

Note: Texas A&M University - San Antonio does not have a maximum number of college-level transfer hours accepted towards a baccalaureate degree.  Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

Texas Transfer Framework: Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) Information


Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) is a set of courses that fulfill lower-division (freshman and sophomore) requirements for a specific major/degree plan in addition to the core curriculum. FOSCs are guaranteed to transfer to any public college or university in Texas.

The Fields of Study now part of Texas Direct.  What is Texas Direct? Texas Direct is the state’s effort to articulate seamless degree pathways between two- and four-year institutions.

Students who complete the Texas Core Curriculum and Field of Study at any public two-year institution automatically qualify to receive an associate degree - the Texas Direct Transfer Degree. They are also qualified to transfer their courses as a block applied directly to their selected major.

Texas Transfer Field of Study Curriculum for Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice Field of Study is designed to provide students with a basic foundation in legal studies.  Students will gain a broad understanding of the historical and philosophical basis of criminal law as well as the substantive and procedural aspects.

These are the approved CIP Codes (numerical codes corresponding to specific disciplines or subdisciplines) for the Revised Field of Study:

  • 43.0102 - Corrections
  • 43.0103 - Criminal Justice / Law Enforcement Administration
  • 43.0107 - Criminal Justice / Police Science
  • 43.0110 - Juvenile Corrections
  • 45.0401 - Criminology

Alamo Colleges District Graduation Requirements


Graduation requirements apply to certificates, reverse transfers, associate degrees, associate of applied science degrees, advanced technical certificates and enhanced skills certificates.  A student may earn a total of one AA, one AAT, and one AS degree from the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District.  In order to be eligible for multiple degrees, at least fifteen hours for any additional degree must be unique to that degree and not part of any degrees previously earned from the colleges of the Alamo Colleges District.  If the student qualifies for a degree from more than one college of the Alamo Colleges District, the degree will be awarded by the home college.  Students may earn multiple distinct certificates and AAS degrees from the college(s) offering the awards.
