This Transfer Advising Guide provides 65 college-level hours, of which 65 will transfer and apply towards the Texas A&M University - Kingsville baccalaureate degree in Social Work.

Note: Texas A&M University - Kingsville does not have a maximum number of college-level transfer hours accepted towards a baccalaureate degree.  Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

Note: Texas A&M University - Kingsville requires a 2.5 GPA to be admitted into the Social Work program. Cohorts only begin in the Fall Semesters.

Texas A&M University - Kingsville Transfer Merit Scholarship


Transfer Merit Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 to $4,000

Qualifications: Your completed admissions application allows you to be automatically considered for the Transfer Merit Scholarship. Transfer students are awarded based on the transfer GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Admitted applicants who are eligible for Transfer Merit Scholarships will be notified via e-mail and U.S. mail.

Priority date: January 15

Texas Transfer Framework: Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) Information


Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) is a set of courses that fulfill lower-division (freshman and sophomore) requirements for a specific major/degree plan in addition to the core curriculum. FOSCs are guaranteed to transfer to any public college or university in Texas.

The Fields of Study now part of Texas Direct.  What is Texas Direct? Texas Direct is the state’s effort to articulate seamless degree pathways between two- and four-year institutions.

Students who complete the Texas Core Curriculum and Field of Study at any public two-year institution automatically qualify to receive an associate degree - the Texas Direct Transfer Degree. They are also qualified to transfer their courses as a block applied directly to their selected major.

Texas Transfer Field of Study Curriculum for Social Work

The Field of Study (FOS) curriculum for Social Work is for students who are seeking a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Social Work.  The field of study curriculum has been approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

The Social Work FOS applies to the approved CIP Code (numerical codes corresponding to specific disciplines or subdisciplines) for the Revised Field of Study:

Special Admission for Texas A&M University - Kingsville Social Work Program


Admission to the Program

Students admitted to the university may declare Pre-Social Work as their major and initiate a general academic program preparatory to this objective. Successful completion of the introductory social work course, The Social Work Profession I (SCWK 2331), is required for formal admission consideration into the B.S.W. degree program. Students must pass this course with a C grade or better in order to be considered for the social work major. The qualifications for admission to the B.S.W. degree program are as follows:

  1. Completion of 41 semester hours of coursework or their equivalent, with an overall institutional grade point average of 2.50 or better. To view the 41 semester hours of coursework, visit Texas A&M University - Kingsville Department of Clinical Health Sciences.
  2. Completion of PSYC 2301, SOCI 1301 and SCWK 2331 with a C or better and a 2.5 grade point average in these three courses.
  3. Completion of 20 hours of social or human service work approved by the Social Work Program.
  4. Submission of an acceptable personal narrative paper as outlined by the Social Work Program.
  5. Submission of an Application for Admission into the B.S.W. degree program on forms provided by the Social Work Program and in accordance with the policies and procedures set forth in the Social Work Student Handbook, which is available in the program office and online at the program website.
