Applicable Transfer Credit Hours
This Transfer Advising Guide provides 54 college-level hours, of which 52 will transfer and apply, as 2 SCH of EDUC 1300 will transfer but will NOT be applicable towards the TxST baccalaureate degree in Education (Elementary Education; Teacher Certification in EC-6 Core Subjects with English as a Second Language).
Note: Texas State University accepts a maximum of 66 college-level hours in transfer towards a baccalaureate degree. Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

Admission Requirements
- All degree programs within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction require formal admittance into the Educator Preparation Program.
- Students must apply and be admitted to the Educator Preparation Program in order to enroll in Block coursework and Student Teaching in the Junior and Senior year. Refer to the requirements for Admittance to the Educator Preparation Program through the Office of Educator Preparation.
- The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies program requires admission to the university and admission to the program. General Requirements
- A 2.5 Major GPA and a 2.75 Overall GPA are required to graduate.
- Prior to beginning field-based blocks, students will be required to apply to the Educator Preparation Program. This is not a competitive application.
- All major courses as well as Pedagogy and Professional Responsibility courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher. Requirements include: ”C” or better in ENGL 1301, ENGL 1302, MATH 1314, 040 Core, and any 6 hours of 060 and/or 070 Core (HIST 1301, HIST 1302, GOVT 2305, or GOVT 2306). ”B” or better in 090 core SPCH 1311. *If “C” is earned student may not have to repeat the course but will have to complete additional steps at TXST
- Junior Classification (60+ earned credit hours)
- Students entering Texas State with fewer than 16 hours completed after high school graduation will be required to take US 1100. All others will be exempt from taking this course but will be required to earn an additional free elective, if needed, to reach the 120 minimum total hour requirement for the awarding of a degree.
- Any degree program of 122 hours or more may be considered a five-year program. To complete the predetermined sequence of courses in 4 years, students will most likely need to attend summer sessions.
- The general education core curriculum courses are listed in the degree plan below along with the statewide component code number. See the General Education Core Curriculum section of this catalog for the Texas State requirements and options in the core curriculum, including Honors courses.
- The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires multiple background checks for progression through the Educator Preparation Program. Based on information recorded in your criminal history, you may be ineligible for issuance of a teaching certificate upon completion of the Educator Preparation Program. If you have a criminal history, you may obtain a Preliminary Criminal History Evaluation from TEA. Texas State University Admission:
1. Submit a completed application, all supporting documents, including an official high school transcript and transcript(s) from every institution attended and application fee, to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the stated priority date.
2. For students with 1-15 transferable hours: minimum 2.0 GPA in all transferable coursework and meet freshman admission standards.
3. For students with 16-29 transferable hours must have a minimum 2.5 GPA in all transferable course work. Students with 30 or more transferable hours must have a minimum 2.25 GPA in all transferable course work. All students must be eligible to return to all previous institutions and be at least one full semester out of high school.
Students transferring to Texas State from a community college may elect to follow the Texas State University 2020-2021 Undergraduate Catalog that was in effect at the time they enrolled at their community college. Students may also, with the approval of their College Dean, follow a subsequent catalog. Students are reminded to refer to their designated catalog for information related to University requirements for curriculum, graduation, probation/suspension, and other general information.

This Transfer Advising Guide represents Texas State University’s degree plan and is subject to change at the university’s discretion. It is intended for advising purposes only so students know exactly which courses they can take at any of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District and have the courses count towards degree requirements when they transfer to Texas State. It is highly recommended that students meet with their assigned advisor to review all graduation and transfer requirements listed in the Transfer Advising Guide.
The ultimate goal is to provide students with accurate information for transfer pathways while minimizing loss of credits in transfer. Students are encouraged to review Texas State University’s requirements frequently.
