Lower Division Requirements at the Alamo Colleges District for an AA degree


The courses in this section meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts degree. The Graduation section in any catalog of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District lists additional Degree/Certificate Requirements.

This transfer advising guide provides 63 college-level hours of which 60 will transfer and apply, as EDUC 1300 will transfer but will NOT be applicable towards the Texas A&M University - Central Texas baccalaureate degree in Education - All-Level Special Education.

Note: Texas A&M University - Central Texas accepts a maximum of 68 college-level transfer hours towards a baccalaureate degree. Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

Associate of Arts in Teaching


The AAT Degree Program Texas Teacher Certification targets individuals who have a desire to enter the field of education as a teacher, school administrator, counselor, or some aspect of child/adolescent development.  Students should check with the college department, the transfer center, or the university to which they plan to transfer for additional information.

Special Admission Requirements for Texas A&M University - Central Texas - Education


Students are highly encouraged to speak with an academic advisor prior to Block I for an individual educational plan.  Faculty Advisors will inform students of the application criteria required for the program entry into Block I . 

Students will be admitted into the Bachelor of Education major by the faculty once the application criteria are met. To be accepted into the program, students must:

  • Complete application packet.
  • A minimum 2.75 grade point average (GPA) overall or in the last 60 hours to include semester where 60th occurred.
  • 12 credit hours of English with a grade C or better.
  • College Algebra with a grade C or better.
  • Approved psychology course with a grade C or better.
  • Completion of 60 credit hours towards the degree.
  • Completion of 15 credit hours in the certification subject area with a grade of C or better.
  • Content Screening.
  • Interview.
  • Successful completion of Accuplacer Writing.
  • TSI complete.
  • Letter of Intent to pursue Certification.

Things to do and remember upon Admission to Texas A&M University - Central Texas

  • Make an appointment with the academic advisor of the major, once accepted to Texas A&M University - Central Texas, in order to clarify department, college and university policies and procedures, to review course sequencing and to help with identifying resources for academic success. Transfer of Credit

Community college courses may not transfer into TAMUCT as upper-division courses (3000-4000 level), even though TAMUCT may have an upper-division course with exactly the same name and description. Community college courses may not be used to fulfill the 45-hour upper-division requirement for graduation at TAMUCT. However, the course may be used as a substitute for an upper-division course with an approved substitution form signed by the chair and dean.

Affordability

Based on 2019-2020 reported average tuition and fees, Texas A&M University-Central Texas is the second most affordable institution in the state of Texas for full-time undergraduate students.  Students are not only able to take advantage of guaranteed tuition plans to control the cost of their education, but A&M-Central Texas’s Bachelor Bonus caps tuition and mandatory fees at 12 semester credit hours.  Learn more at https://www.tamuct.edu/business-office/tuition-fees.html.

Texas Education Code § 54.014 specifies that resident undergraduate students who initially enrolled fall 1999 and later may be subject to a higher tuition rate for attempting excessive hours at any public institution of higher education while classified as a resident student for tuition purposes.
