Interdisciplinary Studies, Early Childhood to Grade 6 Generalist, Teacher Certification (ACD/ASU) - AA to BS - Angelo State University (ASU) 2024-2025 - 4 Year Plan Texas 2-Step Program


The Alamo Colleges District (ACD) and Angelo State University (ASU) have partnered together to offer students a seamless transfer pathway to earn a four-year degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, Early Childhood to Grade 6 Generalist, Teacher Certification from ASU’s College of Education.

The Alamo Colleges District (ACD) and Angelo State University (ASU) Texas 2-Step Program for education majors allows San Antonio-area paraprofessionals the opportunity to complete their B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies, Early Childhood to Grade 6 Generalist, Teacher Certification degree online while continuing to work in a Texas elementary public school. The heart of this program is serving paraprofessionals in non-traditional student roles, providing a convenient balance between work and family.

Lower Division Requirements at the Alamo Colleges District for an AA degree


The courses in this section meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts degree. The Graduation section in any catalog of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District lists additional Degree/Certificate Requirements.

This Transfer Advising Guide provides 60 college-level hours, of which 60 will transfer and apply towards the Angelo State University baccalaureate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, Early Childhood to Grade 6 Generalist, Teacher Certification.

Note: Angelo State University does not have a maximum number of college-level transfer hours accepted towards a baccalaureate degree. Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

Note:  Angelo State University requires a grade of “C” or better on all coursework except electives.

Note: For the Alamo Colleges District this transfer advising guide is degree complete for an Associate of Arts degree by Articulation and field of study complete but NOT core complete.

Course Requirements at ASU for completion of BS in Interdisciplinary Studies, Early Childhood to Grade 6 Generalist, Teacher Certification


The courses in this section meet the requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, Early Childhood to Grade 6 Generalist, Teacher Certification.  Be advised these course requirements must be completed at Angelo State University (ASU).

Transfer into the BS Education (EC-6 Generalist) program within the Department of Education will be subject to the following regular ASU admission provisions:

  1. The student will have graduated from ACD with an associate degree, or
  2. The student will have earned a minimum of twelve academic semester credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

Important ASU Texas 2-Step Requirements:

  • Before transferring to Angelo State, students must submit verification of employment as a paraprofessional at an elementary public-school campus in Texas.
  • Students must maintain employment as a paraprofessional throughout the duration of their time at Angelo State.

This Transfer Advising Guide provides 120 college-level hours, of which 120 will apply towards the ASU baccalaureate degree requirements in Interdisciplinary Studies, Early Childhood to Grade 6 Generalist, Teacher Certification.

Angelo State University Transfer Scholarship Information


Alamo Colleges District students transferring to Angelo State University with a 2.5 GPA may be eligible for the ASU Distinguished Transfer Scholarship. Students who are admitted to ASU will automatically be considered for the scholarship.

Texas Transfer Framework: Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) Information


Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) is a set of courses that fulfill lower-division (freshman and sophomore) requirements for a specific major/degree plan in addition to the core curriculum. FOSCs are guaranteed to transfer to any public college or university in Texas.

The Fields of Study are now part of Texas Direct.  What is Texas Direct? Texas Direct is the state’s effort to articulate seamless degree pathways between two- and four-year institutions.

Students who complete the Texas Core Curriculum and Field of Study at any public two-year institution automatically qualify to receive an associate degree - the Texas Direct Transfer Degree. They are also qualified to transfer their courses as a block applied directly to their selected major.

Texas Transfer Field of Study Curriculum for Education (EC-6 Core Subjects)

The Field of Study (FOS) curriculum for Education (EC-6 Core Subjects) is for students who are seeking a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Education (EC-6 Core Subjects). 

The field of study curriculum has been approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

Associate of Arts in Teaching


The AAT Degree Program Texas Teacher Certification targets individuals who have a desire to enter the field of education as a teacher, school administrator, counselor, or some aspect of child/adolescent development.  Students should check with the college department, the transfer center, or the university to which they plan to transfer for additional information.

Admission to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP)


Procedures for Admission to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP)

Candidates apply for admission to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) when they have completed 60 semester credit hours (SCH). Admission to the EPP is required for registration in upper-level education classes.

For more information regarding Student/Clinical Teaching, you will need to meet with your ASU academic advisor.

Student teaching may look a little different as a paraprofessional. While we must stay compliant with state of Texas regulations, there are some exceptions to the student teaching requirement if all conditions are met. Please contact your advisor for more information.
