The courses in this section meet the requirements for an Associate of Science degree. The Graduation section in any catalog of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District lists additional Degree/Certificate Requirements.

Associate’s Degree Completion


Upon completion of the semesters above, students can earn an Associate’s degree.  The title of the Transfer Advising Guide will tell you which degree (AA, AS or AAS) is earned.  The coursework below are additional degree required courses for the transfer university.  ALL coursework within this transfer advising guide will transfer and apply towards the transfer university degree unless specified in the Applicable Transfer Credit Hours section.

This transfer advising guide provides 74 college-level hours, of which 69 will transfer and apply, as EDUC 1300 and 2 SCH of MATH 2412 will transfer, but will NOT be applicable towards the Texas A&M University - Central Texas baccalaureate degree in Biology.

Note: Texas A&M University - Central Texas accepts a maximum of 68 college-level hours in transfer towards a baccalaureate degree, however per department approval 69 college-level hours will apply for this specific TAG. Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

Note: ACD Math Faculty Highly Recommend MATH 1414 for all Pre-Calculus (STEM) Track Programs.

Texas A&M University - Central Texas: Scholarship Information


Transfer Merit Scholarship:

The A&M-Central Texas Transfer Merit Scholarship is a no-hassle, paperwork-free scholarship that rewards transfer students for strong academic performance. New undergraduate transfer students who qualify for in-state tuition (including non-residents with in-state waivers) and enroll in at least six semester credit hours may receive up to $2,000 per year for up to three years, based on their cumulative transfer GPA. Students with a transfer GPA of 3.75 or higher may receive up to $2,000 per year, and students with a transfer GPA of 3.50-3.74 may receive up to $1,000 per year. Scholarship amounts are prorated based on enrollment, and recipients must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress and meet residency and enrollment requirements. Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship:

Community college students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and transfer to A&M-Central Texas may also be eligible for the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. New transfer undergraduates who have completed an associate degree or at least 45 transferable hours, hold a minimum 3.5 transfer GPA, and enroll in at least 12 semester credit hours may receive $500 per semester, up to $1,000 per aid year, when all eligibility requirements are met. AS Approved Course Requirements

The Associate of Science (AS) is designed to align closely with the first half of a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.  Students should follow the pre-major AS to BS Transfer Advising Guide for the major and university selected.  The Transfer Advising Guides are developed in conjunction with the senior institution to which the student plans to transfer.

To be awarded the AS degree at one of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District, students must have 9 hours of AS Approved Course Requirements not included in the 42 hours of Core Curriculum.  Please check with your advisor for assistance.

Texas A&M University - Central Texas Biology Program Entry Requirements


Program Entry Requirements

Students will be admitted into the Biology major by the faculty once the application criteria are met. To be accepted into the Biology program, students must:

  • Have an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher.

  • Make an appointment with the academic advisor of the major, once accepted to Texas A&M University - Central Texas, in order to clarify department, college and university policies and procedures, to review course sequencing and to help with identifying resources for academic success. Transfer of Credit

Community college courses may not transfer into TAMUCT as upper-division courses (3000-4000 level), even though TAMUCT may have an upper-division course with exactly the same name and description. Community college courses may not be used to fulfill the upper-division requirement for graduation at TAMUCT. However, the course may be used as a substitute for an upper-division course with an approved substitution form signed by the chair and dean. 

Affordability

Texas A&M University-Central Texas is among the lowest cost public universities in the state and remains well below the state average for total charges. Students are not only able to take advantage of guaranteed tuition plans to help control the cost of their education, but A&M-Central Texas’s Bachelor Bonus also caps tuition and mandatory fees at 12 semester credit hours. Texas Education Code § 54.014 specifies that resident undergraduate students who initially enrolled fall 1999 and later may be subject to a higher tuition rate for attempting excessive hours at any public institution of higher education while classified as a resident student for tuition purposes.
