Lower Division Requirements at the Alamo Colleges District for an AAT degree
The courses in this section meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree. The Graduation section in any catalog of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District lists additional Degree/Certificate Requirements.
Applicable Transfer Credit Hours
This Transfer Advising Guide provides 71 college-level hours, of which 63 will transfer and apply as EDUC 1300, SPAN 1412 and 1 SCH of SPAN 1411 will transfer but will NOT be applicable towards the Texas A&M University - San Antonio baccalaureate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies Bilingual Generalist (Grades EC-6).
Note: Texas A&M University - San Antonio does not have a maximum number of college-level transfer hours accepted towards a baccalaureate degree. Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

Note: Students interested in pursuing the Interdisciplinary Studies: Bilingual Generalist (Grades EC-6) Concentration, BS at Texas A&M University - San Antoio should be aware that advanced Spanish language proficiency is required for enrollment in EDBL 3307 - Academic Spanish for Bilingual Educators. Advanced proficiency must be demonstrated through appropriate placement testing and/or the award of 12 semester credit hours of Spanish (SPAN) via CLEP examination credit.
Students who do NOT meet the advanced Spanish proficiency requirement upon admission or advising review will need to complete SPAN 2315 - Spanish Language Studies IV at Texas A&M University-San Antonio to develop the language skills necessary for success in EDBL 3307.
Please note that SPAN 2315 is a prerequisite language proficiency course and will not count toward degree requirements for the Interdisciplinary Studies: Bilingual Generalist (Grades EC-6) Concentration, BS. Students should plan accordingly, as completion of SPAN 2315 may increase the total number of hours required before progressing into the bilingual education coursework.
Students are encouraged to discuss their Spanish proficiency status with an academic advisor early in their degree planning to ensure timely progression through the program.

Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT)
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (Coordinating Board) approves new degree programs (and program changes) for institutions interested in offering degree programs in the field of Education. Education degree programs may be developed with or without teacher certification pathways embedded in them. Community colleges may offer an Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) as a Texas Direct degree that incorporates the Texas Core Curriculum and one of the Board-approved education fields of study in Education.

Texas Transfer Framework: Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) Information
Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) is a set of courses that fulfill lower-division (freshman and sophomore) requirements for a specific major/degree plan in addition to the core curriculum. FOSCs are guaranteed to transfer to any public college or university in Texas.
The Fields of Study are now part of Texas Direct. What is Texas Direct? Texas Direct is the state’s effort to articulate seamless degree pathways between two- and four-year institutions.
Students who complete the Texas Core Curriculum and Field of Study at any public two-year institution automatically qualify to receive an associate degree - the Texas Direct Transfer Degree. They are also qualified to transfer their courses as a block applied directly to their selected major.
