Semester VI

Associate’s Degree Completion
Upon completion of the semesters above, students can earn an Associate’s degree. The title of the Transfer Advising Guide will tell you which degree (AA, AS or AAS) is earned. The coursework below are additional degree required courses for the transfer university. ALL coursework within this transfer advising guide will transfer and apply towards the transfer university degree unless specified in the Applicable Transfer Credit Hours section.

Applicable Transfer Credit Hours
This Transfer Advising Guide provides 75 college-level hours, of which 75 will transfer and apply towards the Schreiner University’s baccalaureate degree in Multidisciplinary Studies, English, Language Arts and Reading with Teaching Certification 4-8.
Note: Schreiner University does not have a maximum number of college-level transfer hours accepted towards a baccalaureate degree. Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.
Note: The transfer advising guide requires 6 credit hours from the Language, Philosophy & Culture (40) Core which will transfer and apply towards SU’s Global Perspective degree requirement. Schreiner University recommends Spanish for Texas educators.
Note: Based on student course selection, students may be eligible for an Associate of Science (AS) degree in addition to the Associate of Arts (AA) degree if 9 credit hours of Electives/Course Requirements are AS Approved Course Requirements. Students should consult with their Certified Advisor for graduation requirements.

Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT)
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (Coordinating Board) approves new degree programs (and program changes) for institutions interested in offering degree programs in the field of Education. Education degree programs may be developed with or without teacher certification pathways embedded in them. Community colleges may offer an Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) as a Texas Direct degree that incorporates the Texas Core Curriculum and one of the Board-approved education fields of study in Education.

Alamo Colleges District Graduation Requirements
Graduation requirements apply to certificates, reverse transfers, associate degrees, associate of applied science degrees, advanced technical certificates and enhanced skills certificates. A student may earn a total of one AA degree and one AS degree from the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District. In order to be eligible for multiple degrees, at least fifteen hours for any additional degree must be unique to that degree and not part of any degrees previously earned from the colleges of the Alamo Colleges District. If the student qualifies for a degree from more than one college of the Alamo Colleges District, the degree will be awarded by the home college. Students may earn multiple distinct certificates and AAS degrees from the college(s) offering the awards.

Requirements for Admission to Schreiner Teacher Education Program
- 60 semester hours accumulated (junior standing)
- GPA 2.75 Accumulative
- GPA 2.75 in Certification Field
- GPA of 3.0 in all education courses including EDUC, RDNG, SPED, and secondary methods courses in content area
- Completion of a formal interview with the Director of Education
- Signed degree plan on file with Registrar’s Office
- Three letters of recommendation
- Approval of application by the Teacher Education Committee
- Signed Texas Code of Ethics on file in Teacher Education
- Have a completed Application for Teacher Education, including an essay on philosophy of education and a FERPA statement and TExES Eligibility Form on file in the Teacher Education Office.
