Lower Division Requirements at the Alamo Colleges District for an AAT degree


The courses in this section meet the requirements for an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree. The Graduation section in any catalog of the colleges in the Alamo Colleges District lists additional Degree/Certificate Requirements.

Semester I


Semester II


  • ENGL 1302 - Composition II will transfer as ENGL 1302 [Texas A&M University - San Antonio Communication (10) Core] (grade must be a “C” or better)
  • Select one course from the Life and Physical Sciences (30) Core  will transfer as Texas A&M University - San Antonio Life and Physical Sciences (30) Core (grade must be a “C” or better)
  • Select one course from the American History (60) Core  will transfer as Texas A&M University - San Antonio American History (60) Core (grade must be a “C” or better)
  • Select one course from the Creative Arts (50) Core  will transfer as Texas A&M University - San Antonio Creative Arts (50) Core (grade must be a “C” or better)
  • ***  EDUC 2301 - Special Populations will transfer as UNIV 1301 (grade must be a “C” or better)

Semester III


  • Select one course from the American History (60) Core  will transfer as Texas A&M University - San Antonio American History (60) Core (grade must be a “C” or better)
  • Select a Content Area Course will transfer as Texas A&M University - San Antonio Content Area Course (See “Applicable Transfer Credit Hours” section for note regarding specific courses)

Semester IV


  • Select either  GOVT 2305 - Federal Government or GOVT 2306 Texas Government  will transfer as GOVT 2305 or GOVT 2306 [Texas A&M University - San Antonio Government/Political Science (70) Core]
  • Select one course from the Language, Philosophy & Culture (40) Core  will transfer as Texas A&M University - San Antonio Language, Philosophy and Culture Core
  • Select a Content Area Course will transfer as Texas A&M University - San Antonio Content Area Course (See “Applicable Transfer Credit Hours” section for note regarding specific courses)
  • Select one course from the Life and Physical Sciences (30) Core  will transfer as Texas A&M University - San Antonio Life and Physical Sciences (30) Core (grade must be a “C” or better)

Semester V


  • Select either  GOVT 2305 - Federal Government or GOVT 2306 Texas Government  will transfer as GOVT 2305 or GOVT 2306 [Texas A&M University - San Antonio Government/Political Science (70) Core]
  • Select a Content Area Course will transfer as Texas A&M University - San Antonio Content Area Course (See “Applicable Transfer Credit Hours” section for note regarding specific courses)

  • SPCH 1315 - Public Speaking will transfer as SPCH 1315 [Texas A&M University - San Antonio Component Area Option (90) Core] (grade must be a “C” or better)

This Transfer Advising Guide provides 63 college-level hours, of which 60 will transfer and apply as EDUC 1300 will transfer but will NOT be applicable towards the Texas A&M University - San Antonio baccalaureate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies Special Education (Grades EC-12) with 7-12 Content.

Note: Texas A&M University - San Antonio does not have a maximum number of college-level transfer hours accepted towards a baccalaureate degree.  Students must complete the specified number of advanced credits and credits in residence for their degrees.

Note: Content Area Courses MUST be from the SAME discipline based on the area students want to teach.  Example: If students want to teach 7-12 History, all 12 SCH of Content Area must be HIST Courses.

Note: For the Alamo Colleges District this transfer advising guide is core complete and degree complete.

Associate of Arts in Teaching


The AAT Degree Program Texas Teacher Certification targets individuals who have a desire to enter the field of education as a teacher, school administrator, counselor, or some aspect of child/adolescent development.  Students should check with the college department, the transfer center, or the university to which they plan to transfer for additional information.
